PULL UP A CHAIR

The Backyard Chamber Society came together one day in the backyard. We daydreamed of an afternoon of music, filling our shared space with friends, and inviting the neighborhood in. When recent fires tore through the areas around us, we saw our city powered by community, and wanted to join in.

Right now LA needs sunny afternoons together, and music, not just for an afternoon, but for a lifetime, so 100% of proceeds of all ticket sales will be donated to music education funding and support for students displaced by the LA fires through Harmony Project.

About

For over two decades Harmony Project has provided music education and social services to youth from low-income families and under-resourced communities, demonstrating the transformative power of music education in the lives of over 43,000 students throughout Los Angeles.

The recent Eaton and Palisades fires have deeply impacted the Harmony Project community, displacing over 286 families and damaging vital community spaces, including Eliot Middle School. For many students, the disruption means more than the loss of a home—it means interrupted musical journeys and emotional distress. Through Harmony Project’s CARE Fund, support is being provided immediatly and long-term support, including food relief, housing support and private music lessons as a source of healing and stability.

NICE TO MEET YOU

Grace Rodgers (she/her) originally from Michigan, is a Los Angeles based violinist who enjoys a varied musical career spanning from the studio to the stage.  Grace often works with current artists, and has been a part of studio recordings and live productions for John Legend, P!nk, Imagine Dragons, RAYE, Kesha, Lea Michele, Michael Buble, Sabrina Carpenter, and many others. Ms. Rodgers is at home on the stage and has performed for television shows such as American Idol, The Voice, The Tonight Show, and The Late Late Show.

Alongside her performance career, Ms. Rodgers maintains a private teaching studio in addition to her position as a Violin Teaching Artist at Harmony Project, a non-profit music education organization. Grace is passionate about creating a safe and inspiring learning environment, while being available to discuss the latest gossip with her students.

Grace is grateful to have established her home on the Eastside of Los Angeles and loves the community she has built here since relocating from Michigan in 2015. Her favorite part of the backyard is the view of the trees meeting the sky and the feeling of endless possibilities.

Johanna Langford, originally from NYC, is Grace’s neighbor, co-owner of the backyard and a Glassell Park-based Creative Director. Jo was fortunate to have been shaped by a distinguished music and arts program at a community-supported progressive-education NYC public school. Her multi-instrumentalist father has also always made music a part of her life.

Her favorite part of the backyard is hosting group dinners under the stars.
